In this article, we'll discuss some of the unusual yet interesting laws in place in Ontario, Canada, so continue reading.

1. No Whistles

Believe it or not, whistling in public is forbidden by law in Ontario. Now, this doesn't mean a police officer will chase you if you whistle to the tune of your favorite song walking down the sidewalk. It simply means not to whistle too loudly in order to cause a disturbance in public. The aim is to maintain peace and quiet in the city.

2. Coin Control

If you're used to using a lot of coins, you'll have to change your habit if you're planning to move to Ontario, Canada. This is because, in Ontario, you're not allowed to pay in coins for a payment of more than 25 loonies, also called the Canadian Dollar coin, or only 5 coins of 25 cents. Again, this doesn't mean a police officer will restrain you if you try to pay $30, but shop owners and vendors will use this law to their benefit and not accept payments in coins, so you'll have to pay cash or credit.

3. Slow Wi-Fi

In Ontario, you're forbidden to have Wi-Fi speed or more than 56K. This one's a little surprising, and we really don't have an explanation for this one. Internet companies simply won't offer you a better speed than this as it's against the law.

4. Maple Syrup Laws

Canadians are not messing around when it comes to maple syrup, which is why there's a dedicated law for the regulation of the taste of maple syrup produced in the country. It's actually illegal to claim maple syrup if the taste doesn't match up to it exactly. Not even imported syrups can be classified as maple syrups if the taste differs.
