Reasons a Family Sponsorship Visa was Rejected

Once they acquire permanent residency in Canada, many people want to bring their family members to the country. The Canadian government allows permanent residents in the country to sponsor their spouses, parents, grandparents, and dependent children. However, the process involves a lot of red tape, and getting your application accepted in the first attempt without any legal support isn't always possible.

Here are some common reasons why people get their family sponsorship proposals rejected in Canada.

Eligibility

Everyone who acquires the status of a permanent resident in Canada can't sponsor their relatives in the country. You also need to meet some additional requirements to qualify as a sponsor.

An adult who lives in Canada or plans to reside in the country after the completion of the sponsorship process can apply for the program. If, however, you're sponsoring someone other than your family members, you'll have to meet the IRCC's minimum income requirements as well. This requirement is specific to three taxation years before you submit the sponsorship application.

Similarly, the sponsored individual also needs to meet the minimum eligibility requirements, such as, a clear criminal record and a clean bill of health.

Misrepresentation

Both the sponsor and the sponsored person need to provide accurate information in their sponsorship application. The IRCC doesn't tolerate any kind of misrepresentation; whether it’s an accidental misrepresentation or a deliberate attempt; if they find incorrect information in any of the application documents or legal forms, your application will be denied.

Undeclared Family Members

Whether you're sponsoring them or not, you have to declare all family members in your permanent residency application. It's also important if you have any plans to sponsor them in the future. In addition to getting your sponsorship application denied, omitting these details may also affect your status as a permanent resident in Canada.
